How to Protect Yourself from Cyberbullying: A Virtual Number Is Your Digital Shield

02-17-2025

Every 3 out of 10 people experience cyberbullying. Offensive comments, threats in messengers, fake accounts - cyberbullying destroys self-esteem, provokes anxiety and even affects physical health.

According to a study by Statista, 42% of teenagers hide cases of bullying from their parents, and adults often do not know how to react.

But the problem is not you. The problem is that aggressors gain access to your personal data: phone number, social networks, place of work. And here lies the key to protection: the less personal information is in the public domain - the more likely it is that you will be able to protect yourself. the harder it is to attack you.

How does a virtual number become a shield?

Virtual number is a phone number that is not tied to a SIM card or a specific device. You use it to register on social networks, instant messengers, online stores, instead of your main number.

How it works against cyberbullying:

  1. Anonymity: Attackers will not know your real number. Even if your account is hacked, threats will not reach your personal messages or calls.
  2. Control: You decide who and when to give your number to. For example, for temporary registration in the application, you can create a separate number, and then delete it.
  3. Filtering: Some services have functions for blocking spam and suspicious numbers.

Example from life:
Alina, a newbie blogger, began to receive threats after publishing her first video. Her real number was leaked in the comments. By switching to a virtual number to contact subscribers, she redirected aggression into the "emptiness" - the attackers wrote to a temporary number, which she could change at any time.

Why is Grizzly SMS a reliable ally?

Not all virtual number services are equally safe. Here's what makes Grizzly SMS the best choice:

  1. Not tied to identity:
    — Registration without a passport (unlike some competitors).
    — Numbers from different countries: choose a code that will not raise questions from the aggressor.
  2. Data protection:
    — End-to-end encryption of messages.
    — Automatic deletion of chat history after a specified time.
  3. Flexibility:
    — Rent a number for a day, week or month.
    — You can use up to 5 numbers at a time for different purposes (work, social networks, ads).
  4. Price:
    — The cost starts from 2 rubles per number per day - cheaper than stress therapy.

Important: Grizzly SMS does not store your data longer than the specified period. Even if requested by government agencies, the service will not be able to provide information that is no longer in the system.

4 steps to protection right now

1. Select the country of the number
— If you are in Russia, but want to hide your location, take a number from Poland or Germany. For anonymity in the CIS, numbers from Kazakhstan are suitable.

2. Set up forwarding (optional)
— Incoming SMS can be forwarded to your main number or email. This way you will not miss important messages.

3. Use for registration everywhere
— Social networks: Vkontakte, TikTok.
— Messengers: WhatsApp, Telegram.
— Online shopping and services.

4. Change numbers like gloves
— Noticed suspicious activity? Delete the number in a couple of clicks and create a new one.

Bonus: Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in accounts via a virtual number. Even if the password is hacked, the attacker will not have access to the confirmation code.

Stories instead of conclusions

Maxim, 34:
«After my number got into the scammers' database, I received 10 spam calls a day. The virtual number from Grizzly SMS became a salvation: I give it out when registering on websites, and I use the main one only for loved ones».

Katya, 22:
«When my ex-boyfriend started stalking me on Telegram, I simply blocked the virtual number he knew. He was no longer able to contact me — it gave me back a sense of control."

Cyberbullying is not your fault, but it is your responsibility to protect yourself.

With a virtual number, you don't just hide your contacts - you create a buffer between yourself and the aggression of the digital world. Start small: register one number for “suspect
